Transferring Utility Services
Michelle will send you a reminder about transferring the utility services. It is usually OK to arrange early.
I recommend setting the change date a business day after the scheduled closing date.
You can let the utility know it is OK to switch to the buyer's service earlier if the buyer wants. We want to avoid a lapse in utility service because that can damage a water heater or pipes could freeze. This may save connection fees, too.
If you are a member of a coop like PEC you can likely transfer your service and avoid a new member fee.
Most utility providers need to hear from you. We can't arrange transfer for you. (This is a service we'd like to provide.)
Please let us know what date you set up for transfer so we can pass that along to the new owner.
This is also a good time to make sure you have everything ready for the move!
